How do I share my Panopto videos or files via a link?

Overview

In this article, you will see easy steps for all of the different ways to share a folder or a video in Panopto.

Prerequisites

  • Creator access to Panopto (All Loyola faculty have Creator access in Panopto)

Sharing Folders and Files Via Links

Basic Sharing

All of the following steps can be done at the folder level, or via individual videos.

  1. Click on the folder you would like to share. In the right-hand corner of your screen, you will see a share icon.
  2. This will bring you to the Share tab of the folder settings
  3. Adjust the access settings (see below for more details).
  4. Copy and paste the link where you wish to share the link. (Continue reading to learn how to share the link in Moodle.)

Share Permissions Details

You can share with specific people or you can share with specific course rosters from Moodle.

Sharing to a Course Roster

In the Invite People field, begin typing the course ID for the Moodle course to which you wish to share. You must start with the semester, and type the full course ID in the following format:
20/FA GB-5XX-XX

Once you begin typing, the field will begin to auto-fill with the course ID information. Locate the correct course and select it. The students in that course will now have permission to view the folder/file. Follow the steps above for copying the URL and pasting the link into your Moodle course.

Permissions Defined:

  • Anyone at your organization with the link: Choosing this option will enable viewing access for anyone who can log into your Panopto site. This will unlist the session from all other videos on your site. Unlisted means that the session won't be discovered by anyone browsing the site. The video can only be accessed by having a direct link.
  • Anyone at your organization: This option will enable viewing access for anyone who can log into your Panopto site.
  • Anyone with the link: Choosing this option will enable viewing access for anyone on the Internet, no sign-in is required. This will unlist the session from all other videos on your site.
  • Unlisted: This means that the session will not be discoverable by anyone browsing the site. The video can only be accessed by having the direct link.
  • Public on the web: This option will allow anyone on the Internet to find and access the video. No sign-in required.
"Anyone at your organization with the link" is the easiest way to share videos with a broad group of Loyola community members. This setting keeps the video unlisted, but anyone with the link will be able to access the video.
